AI Assistant (in-app chat)¶
Ask Kipper questions directly inside the Kipper portal from the AI Assistant. It's the same underlying chat engine that powers Slack, Microsoft Teams, and SMS — it just lives in a browser tab instead of a messaging app.
Opening the AI Assistant¶
Click AI Assistant in the left sidebar of the Kipper portal. You'll land on a full-page chat with a session list on the left and the current conversation on the right.
Asking a question¶
- Type your question in the composer at the bottom of the page
- Press Enter to send — Shift + Enter inserts a new line without sending
- Kipper replies inline, usually within a few seconds — complex queries may take longer
Each answer includes the underlying SQL Kipper ran and, where applicable, the result table.
Sessions¶
Every conversation is a session. The left sidebar groups sessions by time (Today, Yesterday, and older) and lets you search across previous sessions. Click New chat to start a fresh session. You can revisit and continue any past session at any time.
Permissions¶
The same permission level that governs your access from Slack, Teams, or SMS also applies to the AI Assistant. If a question would touch data outside your permission level, Kipper refuses to answer rather than returning partial results — no matter which interface you use.
Troubleshooting¶
If Kipper stops responding in the AI Assistant:
- Confirm your workspace is not in a restricted state — see Why am I seeing a red banner about my workspace? in Common Questions
- Verify your user has been granted access to at least one connected data source
- Try starting a New chat in case the session hit an unrecoverable state
Contact support@kipper.com if the issue persists — we reply within one business day.
